ALCOHOL LICENSING IN HEADINGLEY:
Two Things You Can Usefully Do !

Saturday 6th September

1. Influence the implementation of the Licensing Act 2004

As part of the Act, the local authority has to draw up a local licensing policy. This will have a very big impact on the way the new law operates in Headingley. The only consultation meeting to be held in Headingley took place on August 19th – whilst most of us were away on holiday!

If you would like to take part in the consultation, please fill in a form on the council website (www.leeds.gov.uk/  and look for the Licensing Act link), and make sure that you point out the importance to Headingley of the local policy having provision to limit the concentration of outlets. This is specifically allowed under the Act, but current plans in Leeds do not include use of this provision.

Please also email the council (copying to me: lesley@webbjeff.free-online.co.uk ), complaining about the timescale of the consultation and asking for another date for a public meeting in Headingley. If you write a letter instead, please copy to 2 Grove Lane, LS6 2AP.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CONSULTATION ENDS ON 30TH SEPTEMBER – AND YOU HAVE POSSIBLY ONLY JUST HEARD ABOUT IT. THIS IS ONE WE MUST ACT ON – IT WILL AFFECT ALL FUTURE LICENCE APPLICATIONS.

2. Attend WEETWOOD POLICE COMMUNITY FORUM - Licensing Issues Consultation Event

Tuesday 28 September 2004 in the St Chad's Parish Centre, Otley Road at 7.15 p.m.

Following years of discussion at the Weetwood Police Community Forum it has been suggested that a meeting should be held to discuss licensing concerns in the Headingley and the surrounding areas. The event will commence with a brief outline of current roles and responsibilities of the Police and the Licensing Authorities. This will be followed by an opportunity for those present to speak openly in a suitable arena about their concerns. Details of the concerns raised will be recorded and later passed to the appropriate agencies for their response and subsequent action.

If you require any further information about the meeting or are unable to attend but have points you wish to raise then please contact Lesley Jeffries (details above). Alternatively, contact Sharon Waugh, the officer in charge of the consultation, at Weetwood Police Station or e-mail sw1@wypa.pnn.police.uk  with your comments on the policing of Headingley’s licensed outlets.
