Summer 2002
As usual, there are applications in for more adverse developments in Headingley. The complaints you have made about banners at the Arc and the Box have borne fruit in a way – they have now applied for planning permission to make their banners official! If you don’t want to see them become a permanent feature of Headingley, then write to Planning (see below) and object. It’s slightly late, so get your objections in soon – you can email David.A.Jones@leeds.gov.uk if you have email, but please make sure you include your address. The application references are 26/245/02/SN for the Arc and 26/246/02/SN for the Box. There is a new application in for a 12m high mast, 3 antennae, cabinets and compounds opposite 223 Otley Road, Leeds 6. This is one of many applications by owners of buildings to make money by stuffing our area full of telecommunications equipment. There is, as yet, no certainty about the health implications of all of this development, and we think that closely populated areas like our own are not suitable places to allow uncontrolled experiments with public health. If you agree with us, then please object to application 26/309/02/DTM at the address below. Perhaps not surprisingly, the establishment called Trio (44 North Lane) which was supposed to be a superior restaurant with a small bar in the basement for customers awaiting tables, has applied for an entertainments licence (singing, dancing and music) for all three floors and for seven days a week! We have written on your behalf to oppose this licence and will be appearing at the hearing on 18th June. The Planning Office address: Dept of Planning STOP PRESS..........
Did anyone out there witness the
disturbance outside the Box on Friday 7th June after the England-Argentina match? We need witnesses. Please ring or email me (Lesley). Some good news –
If you have events or news for inclusion, please send to me (Lesley Jeffries) and I’ll pass on to the editorial team.

This means it is ‘safe’ to turn up to the meeting if you are interested. You will not be under pressure to commit more time or energy than you can manage. We hope that this year it will include more events for older children as well as repeating some of the successes of last year. THE UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS is advertising the following posts: Job Ref:
